The “herd mentality” of North Dakota’s tree planting past was also discussed. In the past the state would plant thousands of elm trees only to lose them to Dutch Elm Disease. This was followed by a similar plant to death cycle with Ash Trees and beetles. Doug explains why planting diversity in forestry is the new normal in planting.
