David Glatt, Director of the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ), gives an update on the Keystone Pipeline Spill in eastern North Dakota.

The spill was reported on Oct. 29 and is now estimated by state regulators to have affected about 209,100 square feet (19,426 square meters) of land near Edinburg. They added the leak affected about 22,500 square feet (2,090 square meters) of land.

Glatt points out that the initial estimated 383,000 gallons (1.4 million liters) of oil hasn’t changed. He also reiterated that some news outlets have been reporting incorrect information and the state has all the facts and anyone can obtain the information.

Glatt said some areas of water were impacted and explains the type and reclamation process.

The famous Tioga Spill from 2013 was compared and contrasted. In addition to size, the weather conditions and type of crude oil was discussed.
