Stephen Heins, The Energy Pragmatist, discusses some recent activity in the ESG movement in oil and gas investments. Wikipedia defines ESG as:
Environmental, Social, and Corporate Governance (ESG) refers to the three central factors in measuring the sustainability and societal impact of an investment in a company or business. These criteria help to better determine the future financial performance of companies (return and risk).
Heins comments on how ESG is impacting retirement accounts and projections. He also added some commentary about the green movement and the direction several energy companies appear to be heading.
The recent announcement of BP’s loss in revenue and green push is also discussed. Heins disagrees with BP’s direction towards renewables and wonders if they will diverge or redirect back in a few years.
Host Jason Spiess predicts there will be an ESG score one day, comparing it loosely to a credit score. Heins responded with slight disagreement to Spiess’ prediction.
Heins continues and talks about the importance of the relationship with your banker.
The interview also discussed Robert Bryce‘s new documentary Juice.
