Interview: Lynn Helms, director, North Dakota Department of Minerals, Bismarck, ND
Helms gives an overview of the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources staff additions and reductions over the past several years.
During the peak of the drilling activity, the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources was full staff with several part time temporary people, according to Helms. He added that their staff has able to maintain five to six permits per drilling rig. Today, they have 40 permits for drilling rigs which Helms said speaks to the slowdown of drilling applications.
Helms said they have reduced staff, but the bigger story is the drilling efficiency.
