HOUR ONE PLAY HARD: Jason Spiess is making his way to the Shale Energy Conference and Trade Show in the Permian Basin. The event is taking place at the Horseshoe Pavilion and is expected to be the “welcome back” event of the Permian.

As Jason prepares for his Cross Promotional Podcast with Ken Lavin and Matt Hill on The Talking Energy Show, today’s program is from the Permian Basin Association of Pipeliners Annual Cookoff.

Israel Aguirre, TRC Construction, talks about his journey to becoming a welder and why kids today should pay attention to trades more than YouTube. Jason shares stories about Welders, Pipefitters and Electricians in the Bakken during the 2010 boom and how they would get hired by competitors while having dinner alone.

The interview also talks about the importance of values in the workplace and why he chooses to work with a family business.

The second interview in the Play Hard portion of the program is with
Dee Meharg, Alpha Industrial Construction,

Dee shares some stories of working the well site in North Dakota in the cold winters as well as working in the Texas heat.

The conversation veers into the sacrifices involved in the oil and gas industry. From being away from the families to driving on the dangerous roads to taking less money with more work.

Jason explains why he is a big advocate for firefighters in America.

“I do not understand how 85% of our firefighters are volunteer in America and we are sending billions and trillions of dollars overseas. Not to get political here, but if oil and gas didn’t donate money and jaws of life to local fire departments, they wouldn’t have anything. The governments should really understand their emergency service priorities in America before special projects overseas.” – Jason Spiess

In HOUR TWO we WORK HARD with our Newsmaker Interview: Mike Rentfrow, president, Blue Boat Subsea

Rentfrow shares his story of how he is transitioning into wind energy after working in the oil and gas industry for 29 years. He spent the majority of his time underwater installing pipelines and parts of off shore wells.

Rentfrow explains how his path became directed by the emerging social engineered renewable market, government intervention into the marketplace and foreign influences with global energy policies.

Prior to 2020, Rentfrow worked primarily in oil and gas. Over the past two years he has seen his business contracts and bids shift to 80% wind and only 20% oil and gas. Rentfrow adds that most of his oil and gas work is decommissioning off shore wells and pipelines.

Rentfrow emphasizes his respect and passion for oil and gas, however the reality of the marketplace has directed his livelihood towards the transition into renewable energy, specifically wind.
