HOUR ONE PLAY HARD: Jason Spiess and Sterling are live in studio for this Memorial Day super spectacular low key show. The two recap their weekend as Jason got sunbaked and Sterling was at the lakes with a couple Saudi Arabia AramcoBrat Buds.
Jason reflects on his experience with Mark Eaton, who died over the weekend. He talks about how Eaton was an advocate for the industry and community empowerment. He also previews an interview he did with Mark Eaton in Jackson Hole, Wy.
Dennis Jared, Bakken BBQ Competitor, talks about his methods to BBQ and also gives a recipe for a sweet and tangy apricot sauce.
Doug Wiles, Bismarck City Forester recaps Bismarck, ND, Arbor Day celebration and how they spent the day with some kids from Liberty Elementary.
Doug explains what “Urban Forestry” and what is means to a city and community. Jason asks Doug his opinion or comments on the survival rate in an Urban environment, which is about 50%.
The “herd mentality” of North Dakota’s tree planting past was also discussed. In the past the state would plant thousands of elm trees only to lose them to Dutch Elm Disease. This was followed by a similar plant to death cycle with Ash Trees and beetles. Doug explains why planting diversity in forestry is the new normal in planting.
Jason and Doug discuss how oil and gas has been contributing to the city’s tree planting program and how The Industrial Forest will assist the city of Bismarck with information gathering and solving a tree planting problems.
In HOUR TWO we WORK HARD with our Newsmaker Interview: Kathleen Sgamma, President, Western Energy Alliance
Sgamma comments on the rise of Climate Activism and how the banking and investing markets are being influenced. From rank prejudice to social shaming to cancel culture, the reasons and rationales for discussion are more than abundant.
The two also discuss Senator Cramer’s recent work with the banking community, specifically meeting with the Top 5 Banker CEOs, and access to fair capital and investing.
The U.S. Senator Kevin Cramer Tour included JPMorgan Chase & Co. Morgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, Goldman Sachs CEO David M. Solomon, Wells Fargo President and CEO Charlie Scharf, Citi CEO Jane Fraser, Visa CEO Alfred F. Kelly, Jr.., and Bank of America CEO Brian Moyniham.
Sgamma also recaps her April testimony in Washington DC.
“In the West, oil and natural gas resources are inextricably bound to federal public lands, and therefore, to the men and women of the industry who work there. As much as we would like to avoid public lands because of their extensive red tape and time-consuming process, it’s nearly impossible to develop in the West without touching some federal lands and/or minerals,” said Sgamma. “With that attachment to the land, we take public lands stewardship very seriously. We’re proud that oil and natural gas on federal lands is done sustainably and furthers the goals of environmental justice. We’ve met every legitimate environmental challenge and continue to innovate to do even better. We’ve reduced the footprint on federal lands by up to 70% through advances in horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.”
Sgamma’s full testimony is available on the Alliance’s website.
The interview transitions to the new Great American Outdoors Act. Under the GAO Act, $2.8 billion is directed annually by Congress to address the $20 billion maintenance backlog on public lands primarily come from oil and natural gas revenues generated from onshore and offshore leasing. As the existing inventory of leases runs out under the president’s policies, royalties will eventually be eliminated, creating a gap in available funds for conservation.
Sgamma points out that nobody from the Administration has publicly acknowledged the future funding gap nor addressed how they’ll prevent it from happening.
She also explains why everyone enjoying Memorial Day is doing so primarily because of oil and gas, regardless of race, creed, religion of lifestyle.
In HOUR TWO we WORK HARD with our Newsmaker Interview: Mark Eaton, former Utah Jazz Center and professional speaker, Salt Lake City, UT
Mark Eaton shares his advice on those entering the marketplace for the first time or dusting off the old portfolio to get back at it. He also emphasizes the importance of teamwork and chemistry within an organization.
Spiess and Eaton also discuss how today’s business environment is different than it was 20 years ago and today people like John Wooden have been fired long before his successful years as a coach at UCLA.
Eaton also opines about how much corporate America has changed and how it is making it difficult to develop teamwork skills and internal chemistry.
