North Dakota Senator Merrill Piepkorn, District 44, talks about a bill he introduced that would increase the oil extraction tax from 5 percent to 6.5 percent. The oil production tax would remain at 5 percent. Piepkorn project the increase would generate nearly half-a-billion in revenue for the state during the periods of 2019-21’s budget cycle, citing the tax revenue could be available for K-12 education, water projects, health care and other priorities.
