Interview: Jaret Wirtz, executive director, Western Area Water Supply Authority
Jaret Wirtz is the Executive Director of the Western Area Water Supply Authority (WAWSA) in northwestern North Dakota. Jaret previously served as the manager of the McKenzie County Water Resource District for four years. During that time, he oversaw the development of rural water distribution projects and other water interests in the county. The Blaisdell, ND native earned a bachelor’s degree in biology from SDSU in Brookings with a minor in chemistry. He lives with his family in Watford City, in the heart of North Dakota’s oil country.
In this interview, Wirtz talks about the origin of the WAWSA, public entities competing with private business and what the future holds for the major water project.
