Sustainable

The Crude Life believes in Sustainable Systems.  There are many ways to become Sustainable and create a Carbon Neutral environment.

At The Crude Life, we remain committed to sustainability and continue to act and encourage others to join us in improving the health of our planet, our bodies and our minds. The Crude Life has been a leader in helping build a more sustainable future for everyone.

Carbon Commitments
Building a carbon-awareness future for all. Carbon is the building block of life and we must be careful not to turn it into the Boogie Man or Supernatural Monster.

Not following the “Carbon-Free” herd and focusing on carbon-awareness energy won’t be easy. Here’s how we’re leading the way, along with supporting partners, and enabling everyone to be part of the action and solutions behind climate change.

Leading at The Crude Life
We always start with how we can operate our business more sustainably. It’s our responsibility — and it’s also the best way to innovate, iterate, and share best practices with others.

For a media company there are unique and creative ways.  For example, The Crude Life has never owned a printer.  This action has created an entirely new intention towards our craft.  Fact-checking efficiencies, screen time limits, new logistical systems are just a few examples of how a media company operates without a printer.

The Crude Life founder Jason Spiess has been practiced a plant-based lifestyle for over a decade until his decision to add fish a couple times a week to his diet.  Spiess, a cancer survivor, sees the petroleum industry in a similar way.

By bringing in new ideas and philosophies, a co-existence can be created.  The Crude Life believes the oil and gas industry can be the leader in the climate change movement with demonstrations of environmental action.

One example a media company accomplished was adding “Potatoes of Inclusion” to the Bakken BBQ.  This ridiculous and comical campaign of smoked tubers created an energy awareness for the ages.  BBQs are inherently discriminatory to vegetarians.  Brisket bits in the cornbread, butter-soaked corn, pulled pork in the beans and cream cheese stuffed jalapenos wrapped in bacon are just a few of the vegetarian options at a traditional BBQ.

“By offering a vegetarian option at a BBQ, we are only creating a moment for people to think beyond the normal routine,” Spiess said. “When we entered a BBQ Competition with potatoes, we never intended to win, rather, create an inclusive experience in oil and gas.”

The BBQ example is just one of many that fly under the radar in oil and gas.  While many are focused on emission management and water issues, public relations and image are a huge part (and driver) of the climate and carbon story.

Wildcrafted & Organic Plantlife
The Crude Life has been Carbon Neutral and Carbon Negative since Day One.  From the little things like recycling and Adopting Highways, The Crude Life has planted 100’s of vegetable gardens, butterfly beds and has been publicly educating all walks of life since 2012.

The Crude Life has partnered with The Industrial Forest to help tell the story about energy, environment and empowerment. The Industrial Forest does more than symbolize the actions of planting a tree with a Social Media pic. It also creates several industry jobs, builds sustainable forests, repurposes marketing intentions, recycles natural resources, cleans the air, filters our water and reduces the planet’s carbon footprint to name a few earthly benefits.

Efficiency and clean energy are critical and part of the solution, however, we also need to purify the air through Mother Nature’s natural filtration system. Nature provides a great solution — trees — but knowing where, when, and what to plant is critical to ensure planted trees thrive and long-term ecosystem restoration is achieved.  The Industrial Forest and The Crude Life have practiced these principals since Day One.

The Industrial Forest demonstrates the co-existence of energy and environment with Critical Pipeline Systems and Sustainability Sheds.

Operating Within A Sustainable System
Here at The Crude Life we are constantly pursuing stories, theories and practices demonstrating new carbon-free energy generation and storage technologies while working with governments, utilities, and policymakers to deploy those technologies and drive system-level change. By supporting total transparency, the path for robust global climate action can be created to a sustainable economy.

As we continue to learn more and collaborate on ways to achieve our goals — such as harnessing next-generation geothermal energy or implementing carbon-intelligent computing — we hope to demonstrate that a fully decarbonized future is achievable for everyone.

Enabling Everyone
Collectively, individual actions can make a big difference. At The Crude Life, we’re continuously creating new experiences, opportunities and content that support everyone on their journey to a more sustainable life.
