Jason Spiess and Shawn Forbes are joined by Ken Hall, Chairman of the Board, Missouri River Resources at the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference in Bismarck, ND.

Ken discusses the importance of the oil and gas industry to the MHA Nation and the Three Affiliated Tribes. Missouri River Resources has a goal of operating at company with 100% Native American employees from the chemist to the geologists to the secretary to the middle managers.

The three talk about how difficult it is for a Native American run company to compete against private industry. For example, in 2012, Missouri River Resources had to complete a 49 step process to get a permit to drill, often times taking nearly a year. On a piece of private land, it took 4 steps and 3 days. Ken talks about the transition to a streamline permitting system with an office headquartered in Denver, Colorado.

Missouri River Resources is a Tribally-chartered energy company, dedicated to developing oil and gas resources for the benefit of the Three Affiliated Tribes membership, committed to superior financial and professional performance, promoting environmental awareness and adhering to cultural and traditional values.

Resources. He is a founding member of the Fort Berthold Allottee Land and Mineral Owners Association, Inc. an association advocating on behalf of the mineral owners/allottees on the FBIR; to oil and gas companies, energy companies, and to all federal government agencies.

He was a speaker at the North America Energy Summit in Edmonton, Canada 2008. He has been involved with several meetings representing the MHA Nation Energy Division with Federal and State Governments, North Dakota Petroleum Council, North Dakota Industrial Commission, Oil and Pipeline Companies, Mineral Owners, Tribal Leaders, and Consultants. Board and Executive Experience Managing and Advocating for Land & Mineral Owners in the Bakken, Three Forks, and Bird Bear Oil Plays on the Fort Berthold Indian Reservation: as an individual owner, and, through the FBALMOA and now the MHA Nation Energy Division, for both the individual allottees and for the Tribal Nation.

Ken has participated in high level lobbying at the White House calling upon President Obama to endorse the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. He holds a Bachelors of Science in Physical Education – University of Mary – Bismarck, N.D., 1983. Master of Education Degree – University of Oklahoma – 1996 – 1 Term Graduate Level Courses. He is the Great Great Grandson of Chief Dragswolf, the last Chief of the Hidatsa People.
