Kelly Marshall, Creative Director in the oil and gas industry as well as an Energy Ambassador, joins The Crude Life to talk about Energy Day at the Capitol in Colorado.
Representatives of Colorado’s oil and gas industry, along with hundreds of supporters, gathered on the west steps of the state Capitol on Wednesday for a rally opposing a proposal to ban all new oil and gas drilling by 2030.
“Well, they started across the street and we were politely asked to leave that venue because the group was a little too boisterous for that closed area,” Marshall said. “So we went across the street to the Capitol steps.”
She explained that leadership members Dan Haley, Colorado Oil and Gas Association president and CEO, Kim McHugh, COGA board chair and vice president of the Chevron Corp. Rockies Business Unit, and Kait Schwartz, the American Petroleum Institute Colorado director made speeches to the crowd.
“Colorado Oil and Gas Association is the one who put the day together and Dan Haley spoke very eloquently about the issues and was incredibly thankful for the 200 plus people that showed up to support not pushing through this legislation,” Marshall said. “They got the mic up and working and everyone stood and listened to the facts about the bill, the bills that are under review and about the vote and Dan was incredibly thankful for everyone that came out and showed up.”
Marshall also addresses one of the less talked about issues facing oil and gas in Colorado – industry spirit.
“I feel like this group of people is so beaten down by the public opinion of fossil fuels and oil and gas and the steady barrage of green energy, green, green, green, that they don’t really feel like they are allowed to speak up,” Marshall said.
Marshall also talked about some of the groups educating the public in Colorado, including the nonprofit CRED – Coloradans for Responsible Energy Development.
Senate Bill 24-159 is scheduled to be heard on Thursday in the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee.
