The rowdy non-stop rebel soul that is Blind Joe is as infectious as a night of Jack Daniels and a few Hank Williams songs on the jukebox.

Joe has shared the stage with numerous top local and regional acts, as well as national recording artists such as David Allan Coe, Craig Morgan, John Anderson, James Otto, Collin Ray, Buddy Guy, Bret Michaels of Poison, and many more.

After multiple cross country tours, playing to thousands of fans and an excellent run on Season 9 of NBC’s The Voice, Blind Joe is fast becoming a household name. Although if you asked him, he would humbly tell you, “I’m just bringin’ that good stuff back”.

With his quick witted sense of humor, original country music, and energetic stage presence, Blind Joe is tapping his way quickly into the hearts and minds of people all over the United States.

And for those football fans looking for a unique gift to get, consider this.  Blind Joe was the musician selected by the North Dakota State Bison football program to be the lyrical voice to their broadcasting production.  The song is called “Horns Up” and is the NDSU Bison Theme Song.

Blind Joe is also a friend to the oil and gas industry.  In 2014, The Crude Life and Blind Joe worked together on a music montage highlighting some of the incredible events taking place with the American Shale Revolution.

5.  Bakken BBQ SWAG

For over 10 years, the Bakken BBQ has been a Summertime Staple for western North Dakota, the energy industry and Bakken community.  What started as an idea from Tiffany Steiner and Jackie Jenkin, has morph into one of the biggest fundraising BBQ’s in the Upper Midwest and oil and gas industry.

In order to pull off this event, it takes more than two co-founders, a committee and group of volunteers, no, it takes heart and soul.

This is one of the special energies the Bakken BBQ cooks up.  Partnering with other non profits like Make A Wish, has presented some memorable moments at the Bakken BBQ.  In addition to highlighting the children and Make A Wish during the event, the Bakken BBQ has also presented several “Gifts” live on stage.

Make A Wish gift to tour castles presented at the Bakken BBQ

The Bakken BBQ also works with the local university cheer teams for cross-promotional fundraising opportunities, community spirit and brand engagement.

One very unique aspect of the Bakken BBQ in comparison to other industry events, it their connection to public affairs and social issues impacting the local communities.

For example, the 9th Annual Bakken BBQ featured local dignitaries addressing the crowd, a public awareness on mental health from Teen Miss North Dakota Alexzandria Garcia, DAPL BBQ smoked potatoes for vegetarians, special recognition to Mich Hager for her contributions to the industry and a live performance of “5000 Candles” from Alma Cook with children on stage holding battery-powered candles.

The Bakken BBQ Charities was created in 2013 and became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2020. The 501c3 is supported by revenues from the Bakken BBQ, as well as donations from companies and others.

The Bakken BBQ Charities’ mission is to inspire hope and strengthen our community by creating meaningful change that empowers and improves the lives of our neighbors facing hardships.

3.  The 22nd Annual Energy Exposition and Symposium

This year, event planners are striving to bring “The Most Energized EXPO on the Planet” to Jackson Hole, Wy. and your SWAG will have an incredible backdrop to promote on social media. Not to mention the high level executive who will be attending and picking up some top-of-the-line SWAG.

The Energy Exposition has educated tens of thousands of people in Gillette, Wyoming; Billings, Montana, and Loveland, Colorado, over the last 20 years on procedures, technology, safety, environmental practices, and equipment used in the oil and gas industry.

The serious work of producing and supplying energy to the United States and the rest of the world begins Tuesday morning, September 19th, with attendees and presenters gathering at the Snow King Events Center. Dr. Glen Murrell, the first Executive Director of the Wyoming Energy Authority, will open and welcome everyone to the event.

Lunch is served! Outdoor views are part of the experience in Jackson Hole, Wy.

Exhibitors and Symposiasts represent a wide range of services, including but not limited to, exploration, production, downstream, and all phases of support to the oil and gas industry.

“Energy Resources Symposiast will explore the latest energy policies and development plans. We will address topics that include technology options, supply-chain management, and logistics advancements in building and managing production and delivery infrastructures,” event organizer Austin Jennings said. “Traditional fossil fuel industries are now combining with wind, solar, nuclear, hydrogen, hydro, pumped hydro, geothermal and more, to create an even more dependable, affordable, and safe energy production and delivery system.”

Jennings added that attendees will be able to enjoy a comfortable gathering place for individual stakeholders to come together and share their experiences, perspectives, and lessons learned, as well as discuss operational challenges, best practices, and innovations that will influence all energy sectors in North America.

Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon interviewed by Jason Spiess and The Crude Life at the 20th Annual Energy Exposition in Gillette, Wy.

Wyoming produces 13 times more energy than it consumes, and it is the second-biggest net energy supplier among the states, after Texas.

Wyoming has been the top coal-producing state since 1986, accounting for about two-fifths of all coal mined in the United States in 2020. The state holds nearly two-fifths of U.S. coal reserves at producing mines.

Wyoming was the eighth-largest crude oil-producing state in the nation in 2021, accounting for slightly more than 2% of U.S. total crude oil output. The state was the ninth-largest natural gas producer, and accounted for about 3% of U.S. marketed gas production.

Wyoming’s large energy-producing sector and small population help make the state have the highest per capita energy consumption and the second-most energy-intensive state economy, after Louisiana.

Wind power in Wyoming has more than doubled since 2019 and accounted for 19% of the state’s electricity net generation in 2021. The amount of installed wind power-generating capacity in the state nearly doubled to just over 3,000 megawatts during 2020 and 2021.

As the marketing slogan goes, Wyoming is setting the stage on how to use all sources of energy.

Custom 10th Annual Bakken BBQ meat cleaver forged in fire by Cody Adolphson

2.  A custom knife from Little Wolf IronWorks, owned by History Channel’s “Forged In Fire” winner Cody Adolphson

According to IMDB, “Forged in Fire” tests some of the best bladesmiths in the industry as they attempt to re-create some of history’s most iconic edged weapons. Former Army Ranger Wil Willis hosts the competition series that sees four master bladesmiths challenged in each episode to forge the swords, which are then tested by a panel of judges consisting of J. Neilson, who has been making knives for more than 20 years, hand-to-hand combat specialist Doug Marcaida, and David Baker, an authority on replicating period-accurate weaponry.

The contestant who survives the elimination rounds and wins the episode’s contest earns $10,000 and the title of Forged in Fire champion.

Adolphson was that bladesmith who survived, won and took home the $10,000 prize.

“I made a Cinquedea Sword,” Adolphson said. “It is an Italian Renaissance era sword that a nobleman carried and it’s a very wide blade at the base. Cinquedea actually means five-finger-blade, the base of the blade is the width of your five fingers.”

The championship sword took 32 hours to complete over 4 days. The show also allows the finalists to return to their “home forge” to forge the final entry.

Adolphson started Living The Crude Life right after high school when he started welding for WesCon at the Marathon Refinery in Mandan, North Dakota.

“I started this when I was 18, jumped in a welding truck and went to work,” Adolphson said. “I started with WesCon, local company, and traveled around with them for a while. Built the refinery in Dickinson, worked up in Watford here and there and then ended up coming back to the refinery.”

Second generation welder, Adolphson has been welding since he was 10-year-old and, despite entering into knife making, sees it always in his future for the rest of his life.

“I’ve done welding for the past 11-years and knife making kinda caught my eye, one day I’d life to go full time,” Adolphson said. “That’s the goal, but I’ll always do some kind of welding in my shop here.”

Dipping a toe into the knife-making waters, Adolphson began taking an order here and there while working full time as a pipe welder. It was this part-time forging that opened his eyes to a whole new world of possibilities in the world of bladesmithing.

“I’ve made handles with meteorites and mammoth tusk,” Adolphson. “These knives are forever knives and meant to be handed down for generations.”

1.  Custom Merch and SWAG from Oilfield 365 Branding Company, they do Screen Printing, Embroidery and promotional products.

Oilfield 365 was created while Jose Arizaga was waiting for a wireline run to be done. As he waited, he started to browse the web looking for some oilfield shirts.

“To be honest, there wasn’t much that captured my attention. In fact, what I found was that there is a lack of clothing for the Oilfield community,” Jose said. “So I grabbed my iPad and started putting ideas together.”

There are different aspects to this type of work and Jose wanted his “oilfield brothers and sisters” to be able to wear a shirt with their specific trade and show off their industry and company pride.

“It takes a special type of person to get into our industry,” Jose said. “We are doing the world’s dirty work and this life is not for everyone. We are without a doubt a special kind of breed. Working 100 plus hours a week, this ain’t no 9-5 job.”

Jose understands first hand why workers need their heads protected from hard hats to bad hair days to the Bakken winters.

“Whether it be in 100 plus degree weather or negative degree weather, for me the worst was -58 degrees in North Dakota, I’m wearing a hat on and off the job,” Jose said. “I’m currently working in West Texas right now and we don’t stop no matter how tired we are.  I just throw on my and and we just always seem get the job done to literally keep the lights on!”

Historically, Heins has been a writer on subjects ranging from broadband and the US electricity grid, to environmental, energy and regulatory topics.

Heins is also a vocal advocate of the Internet of Everything, free trade, and global issues affecting the third of our planet that still lives in abject poverty.

Heins is troubled by the Carbon Tax, Cap & Trade, Carbon Offsets and Carbon Credits, because he questions their efficacy in solving the climate problem, are too gamable by rent seekers, and are fraught with unreliable accounting.

Heins worries that climate and other environmental reporting in the US and Europe has become too politicized, ignores the essential role carbon-based energy continues to play in the lives of billions, demonizes the promise and practicality of Nuclear Energy and cheerleads for renewable energy sources that cannot solve the real world problems of scarcity and poverty.
