Shepstone Gives An Update On Coterra, Marcellus Utica Appalachia Basin & Fossil Fuels New Rules
/

Tom Shepstone, founder of NaturalGasNow, joins Jason Spiess to discuss some of the activity happening on the eastern portion of the United States, specifically the Marcellus Utica Appalachia Basins.

“In terms of regulations, we are still involved with the Delaware Basin Commission to allow us to drill on our side of the mountain as we say,” Shepstone said. “On the other side of the mountain, the Susquehanna River Basin, which is ironically governed by the same majority of members, they are allowed to proceed, and they are.  There’s a lot of development activity going on and new wells are being drilled.”

Shepstone added they are extracting large amounts of natural gas that is “going into LNG now”.

Pipelines are still creating issues on the Eastern Side of the United States according to Shepstone.

“We are still having serious issues getting pipelines approved here,” Shepstone said. “We have had issues with the MVP Pipelines and now we are seeing issues with Kinder Morgan, who had a pretty good strategy.”

Shepstone continues explaining Kinder Morgan’s pipeline strategy when dealing with the regulatory bodies.

“They had a pretty good strategy getting around some of these battles by adding capacity to the existing pipeline, “Upgrading pressure systems and by running parallel pipes along existing, what they call ‘loops'”, Shepstone said.  “They’ve been very successful at this.”

The two also discuss the Marcellus Utica Appalachia “dry gas” and how Coterra is utilizing new innovations as well as old school methods.

“Coterra does quite well because this gas doesn’t require a lot of processing,” Shepstone said. “It can usually be put right into the pipeline.”

Shepstone explains some of the innovations too.  From well site innovations to different levels of drilling to horizontal reach.

Shepstone also owns Shepstone Management Company. The Shepstone Management Company is a planning and research consulting firm operating primarily in New York State and Pennsylvania. Headed by Thomas J. Shepstone, our company has extensive experience in representing both private and municipal clients throughout the region and from Maryland, to Oklahoma, to California. We have, too, done a wide variety of projects over the years. Economic development, land use planning and zoning, market research and analysis, transportation, and housing are among our areas of expertise.

NaturalGasNow reports and writes commentary on responsible natural gas development as a vehicle to achieve American energy independence, promote rural economic development and, thereby, give farmers and other landowners the basis for keeping their land in its farm, forest or other open space uses.

Weekly Sponsor:  Stephen Heins, The Practical Environmentalist

Historically, Heins has been a writer on subjects ranging from broadband and the US electricity grid, to environmental, energy and regulatory topics.

Heins is also a vocal advocate of the Internet of Everything, free trade, and global issues affecting the third of our planet that still lives in abject poverty.

Heins is troubled by the Carbon Tax, Cap & Trade, Carbon Offsets and Carbon Credits, because he questions their efficacy in solving the climate problem, are too gamable by rent seekers, and are fraught with unreliable accounting.

Heins worries that climate and other environmental reporting in the US and Europe has become too politicized, ignores the essential role carbon-based energy continues to play in the lives of billions, demonizes the promise and practicality of Nuclear Energy and cheerleads for renewable energy sources that cannot solve the real world problems of scarcity and poverty.
