The Champ is in the house. Well school. The Earth’s Champion Johnny Green made a surprise appearance to the 4th grade elementary students at Tonkawa Elementary School in Tonkawa, OK.
The Greatest Environmentalist on Earth presented curriculum materials from Petro Pros, however, sprinkled in a few stories from defending the title for the kids. Including how Green won The Earth’s Championship near Rio De Janeiro Brazil, and what his Championship Catchphrase is.
“Renewables Ain’t Doable Without Fossil Fuelables,” Johnny Green told the students.
Green explained how many of our renewable energies are reliant on fossil fuels. How carbon is the building block of life and we have to have a Strong Mind not to allow carbon to become Slender Man (modern day Boogie Man). The educational session went into overtime too as Johnny Green answered question after question about ethical energy and how industry was taking on environmental issues.
Green even answered a couple questions on flaring, wildlife and water protection.
“Being able to engage with these students now is critical, they are hearing all kinds of fear-themed stories involving the climate,” Johnny Green said. “Kids are getting their content from Tik Tok, Instagram, YouTube and The Champ is always hearing about new secret cool sites. The Champ gets invited to all kinds of cool unique places.”
Using STEM and popular culture, the students were part of a presentation that went over types of rocks, fossils, time, temperature, pressure, history of Oklahoma’s industry and how the oil and gas professionals are committed to cleaning the planet with ethical energy.
“Every energy has a purpose and place in this world and you kids are the real boss of Johnny Green. STEM and creative sciences are what is driving people like The Champ,” Johnny Green told the students. “It’s smart clever and cool students like you that are helping us solve problems, so do not be afraid to talk to the Champ or anyone else who works in oil and gas.”
According to NaturalGasNow, Johnny Green won the title over Memorial Day weekend in 2019. Green won a 16-person tournament held just outside of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil to unify the North American Championship, South American Championship, EurAsian Championship, Australian Championship and African Championship.
Green explained to the children that the tournament was held on raw undeveloped land in the mountains without cell service or modern amenities. This earth-friendly event was so green it kept away most of the world’s reporters, environmentalists and eco-agitators.
Johnny Green’s Championship platform in Brazil consisted of two main themes: the first is that the cell phone is the planet’s number one source of pollution, and second, ethical energy is part of the solution.
Talking to Johnny Green after the Tonkawa Petro Pros event, he said the cell phone is a “three-headed polluter” and is eco-issue number one.
“There are 19-to-28 rare earth minerals that go into a cell phone, depending on the phone and research study you look at,” Green said. “These rare earth minerals are often mined in third world countries where their environmental standards are nowhere near what they are in the United States and Canada.”
Green then listed a myriad of reasons, studies and stats about cell phones and their three-pronged attack on the environment.
“Second is the manufacturing, construction and distribution of the cell phone,” Green said. “But the worst of the three is actually the data centers for our texts and social media posts.”
The Champ doesn’t get into those details or social issues with the children, rather sticks to the Championship catchphrase “Renewables Aint Doable Without Fossil Fuelables”. Incidentally, that phrase happens to be on The Johnny Green T-Shirt, worn in front of the kids in the audience. In fact one kid interrupted the presentation to ask a question of observation.
“Are you the Johnny Green from the shirt you are wearing,” one student asked.
“Yes sir young man, it is The Champ’s name on the shirt,” Johnny Green replied.
“Awesome,” the student said as he put his hand down.
Johnny Green channeled that engagement into the presentation of how oil and gas are used in 96% of what we use on a regular basis, from toothpaste to our toothbrush to getting the water to the facet for use to rinse our mouth. Visual aids and episodes of engagement were used throughout the entire presentation and event.
Petro Pros is a program ran by the Oklahoma Energy Resources Board (OERB) which engages with schools from all over Oklahoma. The volunteers of Petro Pros use rocks, fossils, drill bits and maps to demonstrate how oil and natural gas are formed, discovered and produced.
Johnny Green used multiple visual aids and interactive exercises during the event, including sweet Bakken Crude Oil pumped right from the ground to the glass bottle.
“See this kids. This was given to me by 9-time arm wrestling champion Alan Bown,” Johnny Green said. “Alan drove truck in North Dakota, Oklahoma and Texas for five years. He saw the world, met new people and defended his Arm Wrestling Title the whole time.”
The Oklahoma Energy Resources Board (OERB), funded by the oil and natural gas industry, has been educating children with Petro Pros and other educational programs. Furthermore, since 2005, the people of Oklahoma Oil & Natural Gas have provided nearly $5 million in scholarships. The goal of the program is to invest in our young people, our industry, and our state.
The OERB is funded by the more than 2,500 producers and thousands of royalty owners across Oklahoma through a voluntary one-tenth of 1 percent assessment on oil and natural gas production. The mission is centered around a simple idea: empowering unlimited opportunity for all Oklahomans.
