Professional Executive Coach, Father, Husband, Business Owner and Podcaster Joe Sinnott joins Jason Spiess to talk about how to navigate the management waters of the Monday Morning Quarterbacks the day after the Super Bowl and water cooler talk when people are not able to meet at the water cooler.
Since the advent of the hybrid worker, at-home and at-office, new communication flows and management styles have been introduced into the workplace.
“In an office setting you used to be able to sense that energy, literally you can hear what’s going on around you,” Sinnott said.
Since COVID has impacted the work place and work flow, there has been a number of growing pains surrounding worker productivity, moral and management styles.
“There’s many different forms and ways to ask a question to get the other person going,” Sinnott said. “If I shot you a text this morning or an email or slack message or whatever means of communication I wanted to use about last night’s Super Bowl, that could lead to a string of new energy devoted to that water cooler talk over digital communication. That can become quite difficult for a manager to manage.”
The discussion continued into different areas of change within the new workplace.
“I haven’t commissioned a study so my examples are first hand observations or anecdotal,” Sinnott said. “By in large the companies I have been engaging with are not going down the time sheets route or clocking in. The results speak for themselves. However companies seem to be moving towards getting their own Slack Channels or Sales Force or other mechanisms of communication.”
The interview takes a side bar at the end and pays tribute to Jerome Bettis‘ positive leadership role in getting his degree from Notre Dame. Both Sinnott and Spiess are connected to Bettis on social media and commented on their “mutual friend’s” Super Bowl Commercial and degree from Notre Dame.
Sinnott also gives an update on the oil and gas activity in the Marcellus Shale Play.
