After two full days of cardboard-wall-to-cardboard-wall action, the first round of The Crude Life 2020 March Madness Tournament is officially in the books.
There will be no 16-over-1 this year, but upsets weren’t completely ruled out. Thursday evening in the Powder River Region provided back-to-back upsets the first day, and you can assign a lot of credit to No. 12 seed Energy Expo and No. 13 seed K9 Pipe Inspection for those memories.
The Permian Region provided some excitement with No. 10 seed Meckler Marketing Consulting and No. 9 seed The Earth’s Champion Johnny Green pulling off upsets.
“We are still on cloud nine,” Brian Meckler, head coach of Meckler Marketing Consulting said. “Up next for us is Target Hospitality and they have one of the largest fan bases in the tournament, but our guys know how to be scrappy and innovative. I like our chances.”
The top four seeded teams in each region won their matchups respectively. One match up to note was No. 3 seed Probus Energy Services and No. 14 seed Razor Services by digging out of early holes to avoid a Fyre Festival-like disaster.
The 12-over-5 curse seemed skip one digit this year and settle in on the No. 6 seed and No. 11 seed. No. 12 seed Energy Expo was the only coveted 12 who won there first round match up. Meanwhile, No. 6 seeds Industrial Metal Finishing, Super Heaters of ND and Public Energy Number One all lost to No. 11 seeds, with Mile High Employment Solutions the lone No. 6 seed left in the tournament. If you’re not sensing the trend here, I’ll fill you in: The 12-over-5 is officially over, baby. It’s 11-over-6 now.
Elsewhere in The Crude Life’s madness, No. 2 seed Brigade Energy Services escaped No. 15 seed Earth Protection Alliance, No. 3 seed Absolute Energy Field Products rolled over of No. 14 seed Bernard Specialties, and No. 1 seed Creedence Energy Services dispatched of No. 16 seed Couch Potato Radio’s Cinderella Story in this year’s field.
