In a recent interview on The Crude Life with Jason Spiess, Lynn Helms, director, North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, reiterated comments from North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum regarding the next big development in oil and gas.
“The Governor touched on it and that is automatic data collection and data analysis,” Helms said. “We can collect an a lot of data, but if we don’t automate those systems for the data collection so that we are gathering what we need continuiously and when we need it. If we don’t automate the analysis of the data, then we just fill enormous amounts of data storage with information that is useless to people in terms of innovation and improvement.”
Helms said Governor Burgum is also pushing for more collection points and real time network communications.
