Governor Doug Burgum has proclaimed October Energy Awareness Month in North Dakota. This proclamation coincides with a national Energy Awareness campaign promoted by the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission (IOGCC).
The IOGCC is a multi-state government agency, of which Burgum is a member. The IOGCC advocates for environmentally sound ways to increase the supply of American energy and promotes responsible development of vital natural resources.
Burgum is helping launch Energy Awareness Month by releasing the attached video to highlight how North Dakota plans on launching #ShowYourEnergy by focusing on science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics programs (STEAM) in K-12 classrooms across the state.
Responsible development of oil and natural gas resources requires knowing a lot about it. Teachers and students throughout North Dakota are invited to participate in the Energy Awareness campaign by creating short, fun and informative videos about our state’s oil and gas resources using skills and knowledge from STEAM.
This campaign is designed to fulfill several of North Dakota’s educational standards, making this a great way for teachers to incorporate fun, creative, hands-on activities into their regular lesson plans. Winners will be chosen during three grading rounds to receive prizes.
One submission in each category (Grades 1-6 and Grades 7-12) will be chosen based on a grading rubric. Winning videos from each round will receive $150 and will continue on to the finals. One video from the finals in each category will be chosen for the Grand Prize of $1,500 for the class, plus the chance to attend the Williston Basin Petroleum Conference in May 2018 to showcase their video. Staff from the Governor’s office, the North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas Division and the North Dakota Petroleum Council will be grading the videos.
Deadlines to submit videos are:
• Round 1: 5:00 p.m. Central on November 1, 2017
• Round 2: 5:00 p.m. Central on February 1, 2018
• Round 3: 5:00 p.m. Central on April 1, 2018
Videos can be submitted to info@ShowYourEnergy.com. Go to www.ShowYourEnergy.com for more information.
