WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congressman Kevin Cramer received an update on fertilizer shipments from BNSF Railway Executive Chairman Matt Rose. Cramer and Rose met to discuss ongoing delays in the movement of agriculture products by rail in North Dakota.
“BNSF has made it a goal to deliver 52 trainloads of critical fertilizers in a six-week period beginning April 12. They informed me today 27 out of 52 trainloads have been originated. This is encouraging news for farmers who rely on these products for their livelihood. I continue to be personally involved in the situation and will provide additional updates as I receive them.”
Earlier this month the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB) ordered BNSF Railway and Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) to provide weekly updates on their efforts to ensure timely delivery of fertilizer shipments for the spring planting of U.S. crops in light of freight rail service delays. The first such report from BNSF can be viewed here. The report from CP can be viewed here.
