Bismarck, N.D. – The North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC) has hired Habitat Unlimited, a habitat development and consulting firm located in Bismarck, N.D., to provide habitat development and professional grant writing assistance to wildlife chapters that wish to apply for grants available through the Outdoor Heritage Fund.

“Hunting and fishing are important traditions for many of us in North Dakota, including those who work in the oil and gas industry,” said Ron Ness, president of the NDPC. “We all agree that these are traditions worth preserving, and the Outdoor Heritage Fund, which is funded by revenues from oil and gas taxes, is a great resource for improving habitats and access to the outdoors now and for future generations.”

North Dakota has hundreds of local wildlife chapters that work hard to organize fundraisers for habitat improvements, but like many civic and community organizations, they rely solely on volunteers who may not have the time or the expertise to develop projects or meet the requirements needed to receive outside grant dollars. Habitat Unlimited will work with chapters to develop habitat projects and offer professional grant writing services that will help them access the Outdoor Heritage Funds.

“Our hope is to provide these grassroots organizations with a resource that can help them better capitalize on the resources available through the Outdoor Heritage Fund and to create projects that will have a meaningful and lasting positive impact for the outdoors,” said Dave Nehring, president of Habitat Unlimited.

The deadline for the next Outdoor Heritage Fund grant period is August 1, 2014. North Dakota grassroots groups and chapters that lack local full-time paid staff or resources will be given priority. Interested groups should contact Dave Nehring at dnehring@bektel.com for more information.
