Every March since 1987, Congress and U.S. Presidents have designated March as Women’s History Month. This year, The Crude Life celebrates and honors their accomplishments and contributions in history with interviews and stories that center around women’s experiences in industry.

We have the wonderful opportunity to talk to Stephanie Canales. She discussed a little bit about her role in energy as well as the difficulties of starting her position during one of the most tumultuous times in recent history.
We talk about new opportunities from surprising places, including a promotion with Domestic Energy Producers Alliance (DEPA) and a new position working with the Department of Energy. Stephanie also takes a moment to mention the seven different pillars the Equity and Energy Program that she, as an ambassador, helps to bring to the public.
This would, of course, include helping to show the public the variety of opportunities within the Energy Industry across so many different backgrounds.
“It’s great to be able to collaborate with people on the government side and to learn more about how we can kind of bridge our talents and help more people get into energy because, you know, it’s a national security issue to be energy independent and have people be competent and qualified to be able to carry out the jobs in the US.” – Stephanie Canales
STEM Enhancement is really a name for getting people interested in different STEM programs, and it was the one of the seven pillars that Stephanie took an extra moment to discuss. We then went on to talk about women’s roles in the Energy Industry, the shock of some to find out how many women are involved in the industry, and the desire to see more ladies taking an interest in the Energy Industry or in any STEM field. Not just women, though – There are projects and programs to help get youth excited about the different parts of the STEM world as well.
“There’s bountiful information available to people and we wanna’ just share that so that people have those resources to be able to take advantage of what’s available and learn more and get into a fantastic industry. You know, Energy, Oil and Gas, whatever you have an interest in, I mean, there’s something for everybody…” – Stephanie Canales
